Are you a new student to Ashtanga yoga?

Ashtanga is an eight limbed system of yoga. The Asana or physical practice links a set series of movements (twists, inversions, forward bends, backbends, lifts, etc...). Each posture is a preparation for the next and is accomplished before moving on. This allows the body to open safely. The synchronisation of postures with breath (ujjayi breathing), a focused gaze (dristi) and cultivation of internal locks (bandha) helps develop strength, flexibility and calmness of mind.

Ashtangasangha offers the beginner student two styles of class -

Mysore self practice and Led classes. Traditionally new students are introduced to this rigorous practice through Mysore self practice where they can gain individual attention. Please see schedule section for more details.

Are you a student with an established practice?

We seek to preserve the traditional method as taught by our guru Sri K Pattibhi Jois. Therefore we encourage all students with existing practices to attend the Mysore self practice classes. Drop in students from out of town with established practices are welcome. Please see schedule section for more details.
